De Video Music Awards 2012 zijn uitgereikt. De videoclip van het jaar is We found love geworden van Rihanna. Ze versloeg daarmee onder andere Gotye, Drake en Katy Perry. Verder een hoop verrassingen tijdens de uitreiking. Chris Brown ging er vandoor met de prijs voor beste mannelijke videoclip (en dus niet Justin Bieber), Nicki Minaj met de vrouwelijke variant. Boyband One Direction won de meeste awards, drie in totaal.

Hoe kan Coldplay nou beste rock video winnen? Coldplay heeft niets met rock te maken, en zéker dat nummer niet! Wel leuk dat We found love heeft gewonnen
Ik blijf het opmerkelijk vinden als Rihanna de video of the year heeft, heeft ze toch ook de beste vrouwlijke video maar die wint Nicki Minaj, Stemmen de mensen dan zo vreemd of steekt MTV hier een stokje voor?
Niet veel bijzonders dit jaar dus. De enige echte goede videoclip die won dit jaar, was We Found Love. En heeft dan ook verdiend de video of the year award gewonnen.
Maar dat die dan niet de best female video won is dan wel weer krang. :S
Maargoed voor de rest hebben maar middelmatige video’s een award gewonnen. Ik noem een: Starships, What Makes You Beautiful etc. Het blijkt dus maar weer dat het niet om de video’s gaat, maar om de artiest zelf. De populairste wint uiteindelijk. De show zelf vond ik dit jaar ook ronduit saai. Dat komt mede door grote afwezige Lady Gaga en steeds dezelfde artiesten die op het podium staan elk jaar. Hoop op een betere show volgend jaar met veel betere videonominaties en winnaars en niet steeds dezelfde koppen op het podium…
People still watch this? Seriously. The network is called MTV, Music Television, and it never plays music, it became a reality television channel, why not change the name to RTV? I used to see it when I was like 15 and they did put music on, I discovered great artists like Annie Lennox there with her music video “No More I Love You’s”. And now they only give awards to the Top 5 selling artists of Billboard, it’s all the same Rihanna, Katy Perry, Beyonce and Lady Gaga, and that’s it. All the awards are about them including this one. Then we only have rappers for some reason, and it’s the same Top 5 singers, same Top 5 rappers, and Justin Bieber and one rock band and one country singer female or male. These awards are all the same now and are super boring. It’s an award show for the popular, not for the real artist. Pop has turned into cheap Dance, and rap has turned into Dance/Rap. And real music is hidden away in some other places. Same commercial/product artists for the teenager that doesn’t give substance, just a sound to jump like a crazy person everywhere. I wish there was a channel with and for real musicians, and at least that gives what it promises to give, music, and with a variety of non-popular and popular music. Discovering new artists outside these awards is the best you can do.
